Our Level 5 Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship trains leaders to work in a variety of care settings: residential homes; nursing homes; domiciliary care; community day centres; a persons own home and some clinical healthcare settings. The programme develops the skills that are needed to inspire teams and considers the range of difficulties that can face an adult in care: physical; practical; emotional; psychological and intellectual. It’s challenging, stretching and insightful 18 month apprenticeship programme.

Our Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship is supported by a team of subject specialists, skills assessors, expert trainers, learning mentors and quality assurers. The team will support your Leader in Adult Care as they complete an in depth apprenticeship programme that develops his or her knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Learning is fully compliant with the standards set our by Skills for Care as well as the rigours of the Care Quality Commission and includes key learning developing basic team leading qualities alongside care duties.

We can tailor the content of each Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship to reflect the needs and specialisms of your care service. We offer a choice of pathways and these are reflected in the choice of Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care units that are selected and completed by your employee / apprentice.

All of our Leader in Adult Care apprenticeships use a blend of virtual classrooms, workshops, e-learning, 1-2-1 coaching and work-based observations and assessments. We provide employers with a quarterly learning management report which details the progress and achievements of each of your ABM apprentices. You can also access the learners e-portfolio live at any time through your own employer login.

Each apprenticeship is eligible for funding through the apprenticeship levy scheme. Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship training

Workshops and Virtual Classrooms

Our Level 5 Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship programme includes all of the basic training that is needed to get a new member of staff up and running and delivering excellent care. Our programme structure is built around 8 themes or topics:

  • Principles and practice of leadership
  • Care leaders: key roles and responsibilities
  • Care and Communication
  • Safeguarding
  • Managing health and wellbeing
  • Creating and managing CPD
  • Human rights and dignity

Virtual classrooms are delivered using Zoom or Teams and are arranged on flexible basis with plenty of interactive learning and breakouts.

Level 5 Diploma and Pathways

Learners joining the Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship programmes elect to follow a specific Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care pathway. Each pathway comprises a suite of mandatory and optional units tailored to employer and learner needs. The diploma is delivered as an integral part of the Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship.

Blended learning

E-learning for Leader in Adult Care Apprenticeships

Our Level 5 Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship programme includes a series of integrated assignments and e-learning modules. These are tutor facilitated and completed as bite size modules as learners progress through the course. Themes and topics include:

  • Communication Skills
  • Managing Health and Safety
  • Planning and Leading CPD
  • Equality, Diversion and Inclusion
  • Managing Safeguarding and Protection

Functional Skills

Maths and English

Everybody who works towards an apprenticeship with ABM Training is encouraged to improve their English and maths. Our Functional Skills Academy works with each learner to assess and understand their current skill level, strengths and weaknesses. Our specialist English and maths tutors build an individualised programme of study to help the apprentice build skills and confidence before preparing them for exams and assessments. We offer certification at Level 1 and Level 2 but we support ALL apprentices at all levels through the apprenticeship. Our work is supported by the NCFE Skills Builder platform.

Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship 1-2-1 Coaching

Leader in Adult Care with 1-2-1 Coaching Support

A specialist ABM Skills Tutor and Learning Mentor guides and supports apprentices through the programmes via a series of 1-2-1s, workplace observations and online seminar groups. These sessions are designed to:

  • assess learning progress
  • review the acquisition and application of new skills in the workplace
  • give and explain feedback on submitted work
  • collect feedback on performance from line managers and peers
  • prepare for End Point Assessment

Leader in Adult Care Assessment and Accreditation

Leader in Adult Care apprentices submit work for their portfolio throughout the apprenticeship. Work submitted is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and detail feedback is provided by our staff. Feedback from tutors includes:

  • Reasons for grading
  • Advice and direction for improvement
  • Likely EPA outcome / grading
  • Comments on English and maths skills
  • Signposting to additional and / or stretch and challenge learning
